Aine Scary

"I had trouble with my voice for a few years (losing my voice and straining it to talk). I had been to another therapist but found the work was all left up to me. I'm afraid I wasn't always able to find the time to do the excerises and when I did, I found that I wasn't sure if I was doing them properly. Needless to say I didn't return to that therapist and my voice got worse and I became very consious of my voice as I sounded husky but not in a good way.

I had been to an ENT Consultant with one of my children for grommets and I asked if he would look at voice box as I was worried about it. He told me I had nodules on it and that I needed speech & language therapy. I was dreading going back to the therapist that I had used before and so I asked my GP if they could recommend someone who would do more 1 to 1 work with me.

Geraldine was recommended to me and I was thinking of cancelling as she was located really far away from where I live and work. But I was told she was really good and to meet her first and see how it went. I was dreading the initial consultation. However, the minute I met Geraldine I felt completely at ease and like I had known her for ages. She completely understood how I was feeling and for once I didn't feel like I was alone.

Geraldine explained to me all about our voices and how they work and how things go wrong. She walked me step by step through all excerises every week, making sure I understood them and was comfortable doing them all. I had trouble projecting my voice and she helped me with that too. She was so friendly and lovely that I looked forward to meeting her when arranged.

Following about 6 months of therapy and with her recommendation, I returned to my ENT Consultant and he told me my nodules were gone and to keep up the good work. I have learned so much from Geraldine and have become much more confident speaking in public and confident in myself. I cannot recommend Geraldine enough and wish her all the best."

From our initial meeting, Geraldine was enthusiastic, professional and always positive in relation to son's language impairment. She put us at ease straight away, which was especially comforting given the worries and concerns we had then for our son. Geraldine was always flexible, suiting our family needs as necessary. She was realistic too, and, by letting us know that our son's language programme would be of a long term nature, we accepted straight away that his language needs would not be "fixed" overnight or even in a matter of weeks.

Our son attended regular sessions with Geraldine for over a year and during that time his progress has been amazing, so much so that he no longer has any language impairment. Geraldine "can and will do" attitude towards our son meant that his language programme was tailored to meet his changing needs. Support was always there for us and was just a phone call or a visit away.

During the time our son spent with Geraldine, his overall confidence grew in leaps and bounds and his language skills are now greater than we had ever thought possible.

We would not hesitate to recommend Geraldine and indeed we have already done so.

Thanks Geraldine for your continued committment, energy and enthusiasm.
